April Training

Spring has arrived, the skis have been moved to off season storage, and bike training has been the objective. So far I have been able to log about 550 miles of training rides, in the 20-35 mile range. While the weather has been fairly dry the last couple of months, it has been cool. The temperatures for most rides have been in the 30's and 40's. Since we live on Lake Ontario, it is guaranteed that we will get cold northeast winds most days due to reverse lake effect. Since the lake water is still cold, as the land heats up during the day, a lake breeze kicks up to replace the rising warmer air. I figure it is good mental training for those days of headwinds on the plains.

Trip planning is moving ahead. We have made our lists and are checking them twice. I am starting to get the word out about the ride to create awareness for the fund raising aspect. The target departure date from Rochester is 5/22 right after I finish my RIT responsibility. The actual riding will start the next day, 5/23. I have registered for the National Register of Missing Children Ride on 5/15 here in Rochester. It is an all day 100 mile ride around Monroe County that visits local elementary schools to raise awareness and money. It will be a good tune up for a longer day before the ride starts. Stay tuned for at least one more post before the ride.
