Staycation in Cedar City, Utah

Today we tried to sleep in, but the fireworks started at 6:15 AM, for a short burst. So after a leisurely breakfast at the motel, we went out to see the parade right in front of the motel. There were 75 units and many of the things we would see at home, like dance teams and young championship baseball teams with high power squirt guns to cool the crowds, county princesses, and old cars, fire engines and veterans, but maybe we wouldn't see the horses and the local ATV club. After 75 minutes, a good time was had by all. Then Sally had a nice dip in the pool and a chat with a young family from Las Vegas meeting parents and a grandparent from Idaho here for the holiday.

Our afternoon treat was a 20 mile drive south to a NW entrance to Zion National Park, and a nice hike up Kolob Canyon with occasional raindrops, gladly accepted in the afternoon heat. So after getting chores done for tomorrow, we'll have a nice dinner and try to sleep through the 10 PM fireworks at the airport. And then it's back on the road tomorrow morning to begin the crossing of the Great Basin and Nevada. Posts may be sparse depending on Internet availability as this will be one of the most remote parts of the trip.
